RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER 1964
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a 1964 Christmas stop-motion animated television special which has aired annually on CBS since 1972
The special was based on the 1949 Johnny Marks song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which was itself based on the poem of the same name written in 1939 by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L. May.
The story follows that of Rudolph, Santa’s littlest reindeer who has a very shiny, squeaky, nose. When the weather threatens to stop Santa from being able to head out on Christmas Eve and deliver presents, Rudolph is recruited to help lead the way and hopefully save Christmas.
Since it has been telecast every year since 1964, it makes it the longest continuously-running Christmas TV special in the USA.
