You can use woodworking triangles for several purposes, but the most common is to cut angles on curved or angled surfaces. You could use them to mark the corners on a base for a piece of furniture or for the legs of your kitchen table or TV stand. For such projects, align the triangles with the edge of the workpiece so that their points are pointing toward each other.
On flat surfaces, you can use them to mark the corner of a box lid or a molding piece. If you need to cut an angle on a piece of lumber but don't have a miter saw or table saw, you can use a hand saw that has a blade that's set at a slight angle. Hold the saw perpendicular to the piece of wood, with the blade set at 45 degrees. Use the triangle to mark the inside corner where the blade cuts through. With the blade adjusted to a different angle, the triangle will mark the outside corner, too.
Using the same method, you can mark the inside and outside corners of a box that isn't quite square. You could also use a stud gauge and a square for this, but a woodworking triangle is easier to get in tight spaces.
