Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) composed the Sleeping Beauty ballet, which premiered in the Saint Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre on January 24, 1890. The work is widely regarded as the composer's finest ballet score, and has become one of the classical repertoire's most famous ballets.
