| Description: |
This traditional Christian hymn was written in 1864 by Robert Lowry (who also composed "Nothing But the Blood"). The song appears extensively in many of the films of John Ford, including "Stagecoach" and "The Searchers" (both films which have been selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry of the Library of Congress as culturally, historically and aesthetically significant). Also heard in Sam Peckinpah's "The Wild Bunch", another film selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry of the Library of Congress as culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant. Shall we gather at the river, Where bright angel feet have trod, With its crystal tide forever Flowing by the throne of God? |
