| Description: |
Written by Gioachino Antonio Rossini (1792-1868) in 1829, William Tell (Guillaume Tell), is based on the legend of William Tell, and was Rossini's last opera, even though the composer lived for nearly forty more years. Today, the opera is remembered mostly for its famous overture. Its high-energy finale, with its ultra-dynamic "cavalry charge" galop heralded by trumpets and played by full orchestra, is particularly familiar through its use in the American radio and television shows of The Lone Ranger. |
