The Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor (Op. 18) was composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff between the autumn of 1900 and April 1901. This tone is from the second movement, Adagio sostenuto. The distinctive melodies of this masterpiece celebrating recovery and renewal were subsequently hijacked by several pop music "artists" in the latter part of the 20th century to form the basis of a couple of whiney little self-pitying ditties celebrating alienation and nothingness, such as David Bowie's "Life on Mars?" and Eric Carmen's "All By Myself". Sheba don't care for those versions; she likes this one because it's The Real Deal and is free of self-pity.
