Description: The Colonel Bogey March was written in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts. The tune was inspired by a military man and golfer who whistled a characteristic two-note phrase (a descending minor third interval) instead of shouting "Fore!". Many satirical verses have been sung to this tune; one originated in England at the outset of World War II, titled "Hitler Has Only Got One Ball." Used in the classic 1957 movie The Bridge on the River Kwai. Although the vulgar lyrics were not used in the film because of fear of censorship, the subversive spirit of defiance is still shown by "Hitler Has Only Got One Ball" being whistled by prisoners of war to their Axis Power overlords. A later parody, "Comet", details the effects of consuming a household cleanser. Also used as the theme to "The Johnny LaRue Show" on SCTV, and whistled by Desmond, Charlie, Hurley, and Jin as they march across the beach in episode "Catch-22" of the TV series "Lost."
