The Fallout shelter black and yellow trefoil indicates that a building was specifically prepared for use for emergency shelter in the event of a nuclear explosion in the area of the particular building. Interest in fallout shelters has largely dropped, either due to the reduction of the perceived threat of global nuclear war after the end of the Cold War, the egocentric belief that really bad things "won't happen to you", or the recognition that life after such a catastrophe wouldn't be much fun anyway. Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" is a pretty good example of it not being too much fun. |
